Bill “Rocks” Gallagher, a blind person, was an inspiration to the 1947 NCAA Championship basketball team. He was considered an invaluable sixth man on the court.

The extra effort that Coach Doggie Julian and his players gave can be attributed in part to this outstanding Crusader.

Coach Julian, Joe Mullaney, Bob Curran, Frank Oftring, George Kaftan and Bob Cousy were some of the people that Gallagher was associated with.

He went on to serve as the Executive Director for the American Association for the Blind, and was a world leader in the field of blindness and received frequent invitations to speak both in the United States and abroad on blindness issues.
