Martin Murray was a standout member of the Holy Cross football and baseball teams.
In football, he played on teams that went 21-6-3 overall and never lost to Boston College, going 2-0-1 in his three seasons.
A few of his top performances on the gridiron came in a 27-0 victory over Harvard during his sophomore year and a 6-6 tie against an unbeaten Fordham team in his junior season (when he ran 78 yards for a touchdown).
In baseball, Murray was an outfielder and one of the leading hitters on the team during his three years as a varsity player.
Following his graduation, Murray earned a medical degree from New York University. He later served in the Army during World War II, where he was the Commanding Officer at the 90th Field Hospital in the Philippines. He was awarded the Presidential Citation and the Bronze Star, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
