Daughters was a three-sport star at Watertown High School in Watertown, Mass.

Before graduating from high school in 1933, he captained the baseball team, was All-Mystic Valley for two years and was All-Scholastic one year. Daughters also captained the hockey team, was All-Bay State League one year and led his team to many wins. In addition, he was an outstanding football player earning  All-Scholastic honors.

At Holy Cross, Daughters continued to excel in football and baseball. In football he made the All-East team in 1935 and received honorable mention All-America recognition. He played left end on the undefeated 1935 team and had outstanding games against Colgate and Boston College. In the Boston College game, he scored on an end-around play.

He also played on the 1935 and 1936 baseball teams, which were two of the best in school history. Daughters played third base on those teams and was instrumental in helping Holy Cross win 49 times in a 52-game stretch. At Colgate, he scored the winning run by getting a base hit, stealing second, stealing third and then stealing home.

In 1936, Daughters led the team in hitting by getting 13 hits in his last 20 times at bat. He signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox and was at spring training with the great Ted Williams.

Daughters had the distinction of being the president of the Varsity Club for two terms, in 1961 and 1962, contributing much time and effort to the organization.
