Richard Arcand came to Holy Cross from St. John's Prep in Danvers, Mass., where he was a two-sport star in football and baseball. A Catholic High School All-Star in both sport, he was also named St. John's outstanding athlete.

As a freshman, he was outstanding in football, hockey, track and baseball.

On the football team, Arcand was a regular two-way end for three years, and averaged 58 minutes of playing time per game during his junior year. He also caught 14 passes for 277 yards in 1955.

Arcand was a captain of the 1956 team which beat Boston College 7-0, and earned All-East honors that year.

In baseball, he played first base and led the team in batting, runs scored and runs batted in during his senior year.

At the conclusion of his senior campaign in 1957, Arcand received Crusader of the Year honors.
