Jim Sweeney was a star member of the Holy Cross baseball team from 1998-2000.
As a sophomore in 1999, he led the Patriot League and ranked fourth in the nation with a .448 batting average, in addition to going 5-4 on the mound with a 3.80 earned run average and 78 strikeouts.
Sweeney was chosen as the 1999 Patriot League Player of the Year and received third team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, in addition to being selected first team All-Patriot League as both a pitcher and a designated hitter.
He then hit .319 with 27 runs batted in during the 2000 season, to once again earn first team all-conference honors.
Sweeney’s career batting average of .375 ranked fifth all-time in Holy Cross history and the third all-time in Patriot League history at the end of his time on the Hill.
Following the 2000 season, he was drafted in the 14th round by the Chicago White Sox.
