Art Wallingford came to Holy Cross from Green Island, N.Y., and promptly became the starting quarterback of the football team.

He was widely recognized as an accurate passer, intelligent field general and ferocious tackler, although weighing only 165 pounds.

He led his team to many victories including the amazing 3-0 upset of undefeated and nationally ranked Syracuse.

Wallingford went on to receive his medical degree from Albany Medical College, in addition to receiving an Honorary Degree from Holy Cross.

He was also active in community affairs serving on the Albany Board of Education and the State Mental Hygiene Council.
