Dick Blasser arrived at Holy Cross after earning All-Scholastic honors in baseball at Dorchester High School, where he was rated as one of the best third basemen to ever come out of Boston.

Blasser batted .442 in his freshman year at Holy Cross. As a junior in 1939 he was hitting .511 on May 30 and finished the season with a .412 average.

Considered by Coach Jack Barry as one of his greatest hitters, Blasser was also a fine fielder with a strong and accurate arm.

In 1939 he drove in 34 runs in 16 games, an average of better than two per game. During the 1940 season Blasser was hitting close to .500 and was rated as one of the most powerful and consistent hitters in Crusader baseball history.
