Richie Murphy was a three-year starter at forward for the Holy Cross basketball team whose long range jump shot was a constant threat.
Murphy served as team captain during his senior year in 1965-1966, when he was named to the Queen City Invitational All-Tournament team in addition to leading the Crusaders to road victories over St. John’s and Manhattan.
He scored in double figures during 21 of Holy Cross’ 23 games in his senior season, including a career-high 28 points against Providence and 26 points against Boston College.
Murphy finished his career with an average of 14.7 points per game, and finished with 999 career points to just miss the 1,000-Point Club.
