Anthony Karpawich was an outstanding two-way end for Holy Cross, earning four letters from 1924-1927.
He was named All-East and All-New England, while leading the Crusaders to an overall record of 28-7-3 while registering 15 shutouts.
During Karpawich’s junior year in 1926, Holy Cross tied strong Fordham and Boston College squads, while defeating the likes of Newport Naval, St. John’s, Harvard, Rutgers, Western Maryland, Dayton and Catholic University. The teams only loss that year was to Boston University by a field goal.
After graduating cum laude from Holy Cross, Karpawich attended Tufts Dental School and was a practicing Worcester dentist for 30 years until his untimely death in 1961 while watching the Crusader basketball team play in the NIT.
At the time of his death, he was chief oral surgeon at both St. Vincent’s and City Hospitals in Worcester and was a former president of the Holden Hospital staff.
