Mary McNaughton was a multi-sport star for Holy Cross in the mid-1980s.

In cross country, she placed third at the 1983 NCAA Division II National Championship, the highest ever finish by a Crusader woman in a national event. McNaughton helped Holy Cross to a second-place finish in the nation that year, while the team also won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, ECAC and National Catholic titles.

She was a two-time All-America selection in 1983 and 1984, before missing her junior season due to injury. McNaughton came back in 1986 to win All-New England and All-ECAC honors for the third time in her career.

Also a member of the swimming team, she earned All-England honors in the pool in 1986.

An outstanding student-athlete, McNaughton received the John C. Lawlor Medal and the Honorable John P. Cooney Memorial Award as a senior, in addition to being awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.

She went on to earn a medical degree from Brown University.
