John Tivnan was a key part of the Holy Cross pitching staff rom 1945-1947, helping the team to an overall record of 33-10 during those three seasons.
During the 1945 season, he pitched in 15 of the Crusaders’ 16 games, posting an overall record of 12-1.
On April 29 of that year, Tivnan tossed a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over the Charlestown Naval Air Base.
He also worked in most of the team’s 17 games during the 1947 season, helping Holy Cross to an overall mark of 15-2.
Tivnan went on to become a successful coach at St. Stephen’s High School in Worcester, guiding his squad to a state championship.
