Stan Kozlowski was an outstanding player on the Holy Cross football teams of the mid-1940s.
He was the captain of the 1945 team that went 8-1 during the regular season. That team made the Crusaders’ first-ever postseason appearance by playing in the 1946 Orange Bowl, where they fell to Miami (Fla.) on the game’s final play.
Known for his kicking running and returns, Kozlowski averaged 39.5 yards per punt. He was also a standout member of the Crusaders’ golf team.
Kozlowski received the 1945 George H. “Bulger” Lowe Award in 1945 as the outstanding college player in New England, and was selected to play in 1946 College All-Star game.
Following his senior year, he was drafted by the Washington Redskins of the National Football League, and played for the Miami Seahawks of the All-America Football Conference.
Kozlowski passed away in 1972.
