John O’Donnell was a two-way end on the Holy Cross football team in the mid 1930s.
In 1935, he helped the team to an undefeated 9-0-1 season, while allowing only 19 points and posting eight shutouts. O’Donnell scored the only touchdown in the Crusaders; 7-0 win over Cargegie Tech, blocked two punts in the victory over Boston College and blocked an extra point to preserve a tie against Manhattan.
During the 1936 campaign, he threw a key block on Bill Osmanski’s 70-yard touchdown run in the win over Dartmouth and recovered a fumble on the three-yard line to set up a touchdown in the victory over Colgate.
O’Donnell was an honorable mention All-America selection, while being named to the Jesuit All-America team.
