Jim McCaffrey was a star player on the Crusader men’s basketball team in the mid-1980s.
After transferring to Holy Cross from St. Michael’s, he became one of a few Crusaders to score over 1,000 points in just two seasons of play.
McCaffrey totaled 1,178 points during his two years, and his average of 22.2 points per game was the fourth-best mark in program history at the time of his graduation.
One of his top performances came in a 102-85 victory over Iona on Jan. 31, 1985, when he totaled 46 points and 15 assists to earn National Player of the Week honors from Sports Illustrated.
A two-time first team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, All-New England and All-District selection, McCaffrey was also named the Most Valuable Player of the MAAC Tournament in 1986.
He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns and played professionally in the Continental Basketball Association and the United States Basketball League.
