Following a standout career at Stoneham High School, Michelle Gagne became a starter on the Holy Cross field hockey team midway through her freshman season.

Installed as a full-time starter at left wing as a sophomore, Gagne asserted herself as a scoring threat, including a three goal and three assist outing versus Rhode Island. She earned All-Patriot League honors that year as the team posted an 8-9-1 record.

The 1993 season saw the Crusaders achieve their first winning season ever at 12-7-1, thus qualifying for postseason play with a bid to the ECAC Tournament. Gagne again led the team and was named All-Patriot League and All-Northeast Region.

The fall of 1994 saw Gagne cap her career with another stellar effort, including a three goal and three assist outing versus UMass Lowell. The team went 12-7-1 overall and qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the first time.

During her senior year, Gagne scored a team-high 19 goals and was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. She was also selected All-Patriot League and All-Northeast Region, in addition to be chosen for the North-South All-Star Game.

Gagne graduated as Holy Cross’ all-time leading scorer with 48 goals over her four-year career. She was later selected to the Patriot League All-Decade Team for the 1990s.
