Bill “Lefty” Lefebvre was a standout member of the Holy Cross baseball team in the 1930s as both a hitter and a pitcher.
As a sophomore, he went 4-1 with a 1.61 earned run average as the Crusaders went 20-2 and won the Eastern Championship. Lefebvre remained one of the team’s top pitchers and better hitters during his junior and senior seasons, as Holy Cross posted records of 16-2-1 and 15-5.
Over the course of his career, the Crusaders went 51-9-1 overall.
Following his graduation, Lefebvre played major league baseball with the Boston Red Sox and Washington Senators.
He went on to spend 15 years as the head baseball coach at Brown University from 1949-1964, and also served as a scout for the Washington Senators, Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.
Lefebvre passed away in 2007.
