Joe O’Connor had a scintillating football career at Holy Cross as a dominating force at end.
His speed, athletic ability and strength made him a devastating blocker on offense and an immovable object on defense.
He also was an excellent placekicker and connected on three field goals in a 22-0 victory over Boston College in 1902.
In addition to his accomplishments on the gridiron, he was a sprinter on the track team.
After Graduating, O’Connor received his medical degree from Harvard and practiced for many years in Worcester and Boston. He was a founder and president of the New England Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
O’Connor also had a distinguished military career. During World War I, he was one of only two physicians to become a line officer and won many decorations before retiring with the rank of a Brigadier General.
