Ray Monaco was a two-sport standout for the Crusaders in football and baseball.

He was a starting guard on the gridiron and was a great downfield blocker, clearing the way for the likes of Bill Osmanski, Joe Osmanski, Ronnie Cahill and Hank Giardi.

On the baseball diamond, Monaco was a mainstay in the middle of the lineup and helped Holy Cross to the 1940 Eastern Championship.

Following his graduation, he played in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Rams, in addition to being an officer in the military during World War II.

Monaco went on to become a lawyer and served with the National League Football Alumni Association, while helping to obtain pensions for retired players.

He passed away in 2002.
