John Wendelken was one of the best all-around athletes ever to attend Holy Cross.
In basketball, he graduated as the fifth all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,386 points, good for an average of 19.5 points per game. Wendelken was a three-time NABC All-District selection, in addition to being named All-New England twice.
He was also a two-time All-New England selection in baseball, and served as captain of both the baseball and basketball teams during his senior year.
The Crusader of the Year in 1965, Wendelken was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets following his graduation. He went on to coach basketball at the high school level at Worcester (Mass.) Academy and Palisades Park (N.J.) High School, winning several regional and state titles.
