John Mayotte was a standout player of the Holy Cross tennis teams of the late 1960s.

He won both the Worcester County and Brandeis Eastern Intercollegiate singles championships during his sophomore year, while posting an overall record of 12-1. In addition, he and John Hughes compiled a 7-0 mark in doubles and captured the Western New England Championship.

In his junior year, Mayotte led Holy Cross to an 11-2 record and a fourth place in New England, while he and Hughes were New England runners up in doubles.

As a senior, he went unbeaten in singles as the team went 13-0 overall. During that season, Mayotte and Marc Young were undefeated in doubles and the squad was the first and only unbeaten team in Holy Cross tennis history.

Mayotte lost only one singles match during his varsity career and played on teams which compiled a 35-4 record overall, (including 21 consecutive wins.
