A native of Detroit, Mich., Stan Grayson was a two-time All-State performer at All Saints High School. He was then a three-year starter forward for the Crusaders, competing on teams which won 49 and lost 28.  He served as co-captain of the 1971-72 squad with Buddy Venne.

Known chiefly for his prowess on defense, Grayson was always called upon to guard the opponent’s top scorer. He squared off against such offensive threats as Johnny Neumann of Ole Miss and Julius Erving of UMass during his time on Mount St. James.

Grayson had his most outstanding game as a Crusader on Feb. 24, 1971, when he scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 22 rebounds as Holy Cross thrashed highly regarded Georgetown 109-72.

Always a popular student-athlete on campus, Grayson was honored by the Varsity Club as the Crusader of the Year in 1972.
