Hall of Fame
Jack Whalen was an outstanding athlete at South High School in Worcester before entering Holy Cross.
He was one of Jack Barry’s great infielders with great competitive spirit, a fine arm and good hitting ability. Whalen was captain of the 1947 team that went 15-2 overall and defeated the Boston Braves. He also won two letters in basketball playing for Doggie Julian.
Whalen went on to serve as the head coach of the Holy Cross baseball team for 27 years, with his 343 career victories being the second-most in program history. His 1978 squad posted an overall record of 27-14-2 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
In addition, he was an assistant coach for the basketball and football team.
