A schoolboy star at Watertown High School, Dick Berardino quickly became a mainstay on Jack Barry's baseball squads of the late 1950s.

He was named All-District I as a centerfielder during his sophomore year, when he was the leading hitter on a Crusader team which had a record of 16-3. Berardino also starred on the 1958 squad which placed third in the nation in the College World Series.

Berardino also played end in football, and was the leading pass receiver on the 1957 team. He played a key role in the Crusaders' 7-0 win over Boston College in 1956 at Fenway Park.

Berardino signed with the New York Yankees following his graduation and played several years in their system.  He later spent time as a coach with the Boston Red Sox.
