One of the finest running backs in Holy Cross football history, John Grigas received recognition on several All-America teams while being named All-New England and All-East twice.

As a sophomore, he led the Crusaders in rushing with 437 yards. He then began his junior year by scoring all three Holy Cross touchdowns as the Crusaders upset Louisiana State 19-13.

Grigas ended up with 826 yards rushing in 1941 to finish fourth in the country in that category. He was injured much of his senior year, but when he was healthy the Crusaders whipped North Carolina State, Temple, Manhattan and finally Boston College (55-12) in what many feel is the biggest college football upset of all-time. Grigas scored two touchdowns and passed for two more in that victory, one of the biggest in the history of the program.
