Hall of Fame
After starring at Johnson High in North Andover, Mass., and St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass., Walter Roberts entered Holy Cross in 1939.
Roberts was an outstanding end for the Crusaders in 1940 and 1941.
After serving in the United States Army Air Forces from 1942-1946, he returned to Holy Cross and continued to play great football.
Roberts earned All-New England and All-America recognition, while playing all 60 minutes in 20 of the 29 career games he started.
He also played in the 1947 East-West Shrine Game following his senior season.
Roberts went on to coach high school football and baseball for 25 years.
He served as president of the Massachusetts State Football Coaches Association, and was elected to the State Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
