James Scondras was one of a very few three-sport stars at Holy Cross.

He ran, passed and kicked in football, scored often in basketball and was the clean-up hitter in baseball with a batting average of .471 during the 1941 season. Scondras was a regular in three sports for three years and won nine varsity letters.

One of the first to enter the Marines in World War II, he died on February 25, 1945, at Iwo Jima, and thus was deprived of pursuing a professional baseball career.
