Thomas Mahoney was a standout on the Holy Cross track team in the late 1910s.
In 1917, he ran a leg on the 1,280-yard relay team that set a world record with a time of 2:28-2/5 seconds in the Coast Artillery Crops Games held at Mechanics Hall in Boston, Mass. That record would stand for 13 years.
That same relay team, which included Andy Kelly, Joe Higgins and Jack Dunphy, also set a Class B record at the Penn Relays.
Mahoney was a member of three teams that beat Boston College, and he also won the Connecticut 440-yard championship.
As a team captain in 1918, he won the New England 440-yard championship.
