Paul Shannon served as an orthopedic surgeon and consultant for Holy Cross’ athletic teams for some 35 years, from 1955-1990.

A fixture at athletic events, he donated his time and skills to keep Crusader student-athletes in good health, while becoming a pioneer in what is today known as sports medicine.

A charter member of Holy Cross’ President’s Council, Shannon was the first orthopedic surgeon in the East to combine his practice with physical therapy.

He expanded the profession of an orthopedic surgeon from not only the immediate management on an injury, but the rehabilitation of the athlete as well.

Shannon passed away in 1997 at the age of 85.
