Healy entered Holy Cross as an outstanding college football prospect after gaining a place on the mythical High School All-America team at St. John's High School in Washington, D.C.

He lived up to that reputation and his teammates elected him captain of the 1958 squad. His great play against Syracuse, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Dartmouth and Boston College earned him All-East and All-America honors.

In 1956 he was the only sophomore to make Syracuse’s All-Opponent Team. Five colleges picked him on their All-Opponent Teams.

Healy later played professional football in Canada and returned to Worcester as the coach at St. Peter’s High School. He was also a teacher at Bartlett High School in Webster, Mass.
