Hall of Fame
John Hughes became an immediate factor on the varsity tennis team as a sophomore, winning 11 matches and losing but one. He also teamed with classmate John Mayotte to compile a 7-0 record in doubles, including the Western New England Doubles Championship.
As a junior, Hughes led Holy Cross to an 11-2 record and a fourth-place finish in the New England Tournament, while he and Mayotte were runners-up in the New England doubles.
In his senior year, Hughes was unbeaten as the team compiled a 13-0 undefeated season and was ranked No. 1 in New England. During that season, Hughes and his partner became the first undefeated doubles squad in Holy Cross tennis history.
Hughes played on teams which compiled a 35-4 record overall, including 21 wins in a row.
