Joe Mulligan was a three-year letterwinner in baseball and one of the best pitchers Holy Cross ever produced.
Over the course of his career, Mulligan went 17-7 with 182 strikeouts in 169-2/3 innings, while helping the Crusaders win a New England Championship.
He went 5-2 as a sophomore and then 7-4 as a junior, opening the season with a 16-strikeout, 6-0 victory at Brown. He once defeated Boston College, Yale and Harvard in one week.
A broken thumb held him back at the beginning of his senior year, but he came back to compile a 5-1 record.
After graduation, Mulligan spent time in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox.
He passed away in 1986.
