Jim Dieckelman was a stellar receiver on Holy Cross’ teams of the late 1940s. He was the first winner of the O’Melia Award following the 1945 Holy Cross-Boston College, and was a starter in the Orange Bowl against Miami.

Dieckelman’s best season came in 1948, when he was selected All-New England and All-East, in addition to receiving honorable mention on several All-America teams. He was also selected and played in the North-South Shrine game.

Dieckelman was drafted into the National Football League and signed with the New York Bulldogs. He was selected to the Eastern All-Star team as a rookie and was a starting offensive end.
