Marie Kenny was a star member of the Holy Cross women’s swimming team in the early to mid-1980s.
During her freshman season, Kenny qualified for the Division III national championship.
The following year Holy Cross moved to Division I, and at the New England Championship she broke the record for most points scored by an individual with 43. Kenny also set four school records that year during the inaugural meet at the Hart Center, and finished in the top three in five events at the ECAC Championship, winning the 100-yard butterfly.
In her junior year, she lost only one individual race all season, while scoring 153 total points. Kenny broke her own record with 55 points at the New England Championship, and won Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
Kenny continued her winning ways as a senior, once again qualifying for the New England Championship in a number of events. She won the 100-yard butterfly at the MAAC Championship, in addition to being a finalist in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.
She finished her career undefeated in dual meets in four events: the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly. Named the team MVP all four years, Kenny graduated as the Holy Cross record holder in 13 of a possible 17 individual events, in addition to being a part of four record-setting relay teams.
