John Reilly was a three-year starter for the Holy Cross men’s basketball team, helping the squad to an overall record of 38-26.
A prolific scorer for his time, Reilly notched 523 points in his tenure at Holy Cross, averaging 8.2 points a game. He held the all-time Holy Cross scoring record for 20 years, until it was broken by George Kaftan.
As a senior, Reilly scored 154 points over 15 games, averaging 10.3 points per contest. For his career, he accounted for 25.6 percent of the Crusaders’ total offense, scoring 523 of Holy Cross’ 2,040 points from 1924-1928.
Reilly served as team captain as a senior and led Holy Cross to a 13-6 mark, posting the second highest win total in school history at the time.
After graduation, Reilly went to Columbia Presbyterian Medical School before serving as a general practitioner in Westchester County for over 40 years.
