Jim Cavalieri was a truly great offensive and defensive end who excelled in all phases of the game. At 5'9' and weighing only 175 pounds, he could block and defend against bigger opponents without injury. His great defensive play against the 1931 Brown team, which featured wide reverses, led Holy Cross to its first-ever win over the Bears (33-0). Cavalieri also intercepted a lateral pass against Harvard and returned it for a touch-down during the Crusaders' 27-0 win over the Crimson in 1930.

In addition to his exploits in football, Cavalieri competed as a pitcher in baseball and in track and field. He was later an outstanding coach at Johnson High School in North Andover for years and coached with great success at Arlington High School. He was a brilliant student and also taught math for years.

Originally from East Boston, he gained All-New England, All-East and All-America recognition and is in the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
