Jim Buonopane was a three-year star at guard and served as captain of the 1955 team.

A two-way player on the line, he was selected All-East, Catholic All-America and honorable mention All-America, in addition to being chosen to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

Buonopane had a number of outstanding games during his senior season in 1955. He totaled 16 tackles in the 29-21 victory at Dartmouth in 1955, while his tackle of Colgate's Frank Nardulli for a safety was key to a 15-14 win over the Raiders.  Buonopane led a defensive line that allowed just 95.1 rushing yards per game during his senior year.
