Daniel Triggs graduated from Brockton High School and enrolled at Niagara University, but later transferred to Holy Cross after his freshman year. He proved himself to be a star athlete and a brilliant scholar, graduating magna cum laude with a scholarship to Harvard Law School.

In football, Triggs was a player of exceptional ability and leadership. He was captain of the 1908 football team and the star of the game against Dartmouth that dedicated Fitton Field.

At Harvard, he played on the Harvard Law School football team and his fine play helped the Crimson defeat the famed Carlisle Indian team before a crowd of 25,000 at Harvard Stadium.

Later, Triggs was assistant coach at Everett High School and the Volkman School.

He also spent many years as a practicing attorney in Boston.
