Jack Whalen was a standout member of the Holy Cross football and men’s lacrosse teams in the early 1950s and late 1960s.
A three-year starter as a two-way tackle on the gridiron, Whalen helped the Crusaders to an overall record of 19-11 from 1959-1961.
A team captain during his senior season, he played a key role in Holy Cross’ 38-26 victory over Boston College in the final game of his collegiate career.
Whalen also served as a captain of the lacrosse team as a senior, when he was named honorable mention All-New England.
Following his graduation, he spent many years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of colonel.
