Men's Track And Field Suffers 98-81 Defeat At Maine

THE BASICS

Location: New Balance Field House (Orono, Maine) 
The Lead: Juniors Lucas Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) clocked New Balance Field House records while eight more Crusaders registered first-place finishes as the Holy Cross men's track and field team fell to Maine by a final of 98-91. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Senior co-captain Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) won the weight throw with a distance of 16.11 meters as senior Lucius White (Andover, Mass.) followed in third with a new career-best distance of 14.23 meters. 
  • In the pole vault, junior Tim Dunn (Fords, N.J.) won by clearing a height of 4.42 meters with sophomore Michael Araujo (Southbridge, Mass.) following in third and clearing a career-best height of 4.27 meters. 
  • Junior Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) ran to a career-best time of 4:17.64 in the one mile and registered a second-place finish. 
  • In the 400 meter dash, junior Dominic Abacherli (Boxborough, Mass.) finished first with a time of 52.43 seconds as sophomore Benjamin Ghiano (Iselin, N.J.) finished third at 1:09.30. 
  • Freshman Nicholas Boire (Manchester, N.H.) clocked a second place finish in the 500 meter dash at 1:07.29 with sophomore Michael Andre (Feeding Hills, Mass.) coming in third at 1:09.30.
  • The 60 meter dash saw senior Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.) cross the finish line in second at 7.13 seconds with senior co-captain Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.) taking third at 7.33 seconds. 
  • Senior co-captain Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.68
  • In the 1,000 meter run, Keefer set a New Balance Field House record with a time of 2:29.23 and finished in first with junior James Harrison (Bronxville, N.Y.) taking third at 2:40.90. 
  • Galasso registered a second-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.32 seconds with Abacherli crossing the finish line in third at 23.40. 
  • Muldoon won the 3,000 meter run, setting not only a new career-best time at 8:30.65, but also set a New Balance Field House record. 
  • The 4 x 400 relay team comprised of Tejidor, Dutton, Andre and Keefer finished first with a time of 3:29.08 as the 4 x 800 relay team made up of junior Matt Luizzi (Albany, N.Y.), freshmen Bryan Gallagher (Littleton, Mass.) and Thomas Kalantzakos (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Jorge Rojas (Manchester, N.H.) also placed first with a time of 8:29.71.

  • The Crusaders return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 14 as they travel to Boston for the Valentine Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
