THE BASICS

The Lead: The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving fell to Bryant by a score of 233-67 on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the meet, seniors Brendan Higgins (Summit, N.J.), Thomas Horigan (West Hartford, Conn.), Walker Lahr (Monticello, Minn.), Jake McLaughlin (Erie, Pa.), Michael Noone (Stamford, Conn.), Andrew Olivieri (Newark, Del.) and Jack Swain (West Hartford, Conn.) were recognized in their final meet at the Hart Center by coaches Barry Parenteau and assistant coaches Wil Aybar and Ian Hennessy for their hard work and dedication to the team over the past four years.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 400 medley relay team comprised of freshman Ethan Nightingale (Yarmouth, Maine), Higgins, junior Matthew Bates (South Easton, Mass.) and freshman Geneth Chin (South Windsor, Conn.) clocked a fourth place finish with a time of 3:50.31.
- Junior David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) swam to a time of 10:33.95 and fourth place finish in the 1,000 freestyle. He also finished third in the 500 freestyle at 5:07.12.
- The Crusaders registered two second-place finishes by freshman Jake Sbarbaro (Lakewood, Colo.) in the 100 and 200 freestyle at 49.85 and 1:48.03. Sbarbaro also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly at 56.68.
- In the 100 backstroke, Horigan finished third with a time of 56.68 as Nightingale followed in fifth (57.97) and junior Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) taking sixth (58.19).
- Sophomore Andrew Higgins (New Canaan, Conn.) touched the wall at 1:02.33 and registered a third place finish with Swain following in fourth (1:02.57) and Lahr taking fifth (1:04.57).
- Higgins also finished in third in the 200 breaststroke, registering a time of 2:17.79.
- Wright also finished fourth in the 200 butterfly at 2:12.20 with junior A.J. Zarrella (Wickford, R.I.) coming in behind in fifth (2:20.87).
- In the 50 freestyle, Chin finished fourth with a time of 23.20.
- Following Sbarbaro in the 100 freestyle was sophomore Alex Young (Natick, Mass.), swimming to a fifth place finish at 51.89 with Chin behind him in sixth (52.26).
- In the 200 backstroke, Nightingale took a fourth place finish at 2:06.47.
- Freshman Hayden Kucharski (Bloomfield, N.J.) touched the wall in second in the 200 IM at 2:04.17.
- The 200 freestyle relay team made up of Chin, freshman John Williams (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), Olivieri and Horigan had the highest Crusader finish, placing third with a time of 1:32.24.
- On the diving side, freshman Jimmy Nugent had the top Crusader finish in the one (210.38) and three (195.67) meter dives, placing second and third. Higgins dove to a fourth place finish in both the one (193.65) and three (192.67) meter dives.

- The Crusaders have a short break before they head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Patriot League Championship, hosted by Bucknell, on Wednesday, Feb. 18 to Saturday, Feb. 21.
