THE BASICS:

Regatta: Eastern Sprints

Location: Worcester, Mass. (Lake Quinsigamond)

The Lead: The Holy Cross men's rowing team competed at the 2016 Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond as the Crusaders tied for 15th. Princeton won the team title to earn the Rowe Cup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The varsity eight was sixth in its heat with a time of 6:12.031. No. 4 Princeton won with a time of 5:48.274. The Crusaders then finished third in the Third-Level Final with a time of 5:53.922 to place 15th in the overall varsity eight competition. Yale won the Grand Final.
• The second varsity eight placed sixth in its heat with a time of 6:27.311. Yale won with a time of 5:54.213.The Crusaders then placed fourth in the Third-Level Final with a time of 6:10.428 to finish 16th overall in the second varsity eight competition. Harvard won the Grand Final.
• The third varsity eight finished sixth in its heat with a time of 6:34.839. Harvard won with a time of 6:03.512. The Crusaders then placed fourth in the Third-Level Final with a time of 6:33.279 to finish 16th in the overall third varsity eight competition. Princeton won the Grand Final.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:

• The Eastern Sprints is part of the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition between Holy Cross and Boston University. The Terriers earned a point with their fifth place finish. Go here for the schedule and results of the Turnpike Trophy.
• This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.

• Holy Cross Third Varsity Eight:
