Track and field teams host Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross track and field teams hosted the inaugural Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational for Senior Day on Saturday, April 19. The men's team finished second of four teams and the women's team also finished in second place out of the five competing squads.

The men totaled 143 points and the women tallied 158.5 points in the meet.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The 4x100m relay team of senior captain Brian Fennelly, senior captain Aidan Bergin, freshman Iain DeBoth and freshman Josh Gentchos set a school record of 41.09 to win the event.
  • Junior captain Liam Lyons won the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.33, breaking his own school record. Sophomore Joseph Mahon placed second in 1:50.64. 
  • Fennelly also had a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles, running a time of 14.62 seconds. 
  • Holy Cross took the top three spots in the 400 meter hurdles, with Fennelly leading the way at 53.90 seconds. Sophomore Matthew Perkins finished in 54.19 and junior Luke Wadzinski ran a time of 57.07.
  • The relay team of senior Andrew Van De Mark, freshman Brendan Rogers, DeBoth and sophomore Tristan Miller won the 4x400m in a time of 3:23.36.
  • Sophomore Michel Mondesir was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.94 meters.
  • Junior Jack Ryan placed second in the javelin with a mark of 59.70 meters. 
  • Gentchos was second in the 200 meters, clocking in at 21.88 seconds. 
  • Miller finished third in the 400 meters at 47.92 seconds. 
  • Senior captain William Schimitsch had a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters 
  • Sophomore Michael Laflamme placed third in the hammer with a mark of 53.43. 
  • Freshman Tireni Asenuga placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.78 meters, and fifth in the long jump at 6.87 meters. 
  • Senior Sam Baker was fifth in the 2,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 6:29.70. 
  • Sophomore CJ Oltmer placed seventh in the discus throw with a mark of 39.32m.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Freshman Grace Ryan broke her own school record in the javelin with a winning mark of 43.94 meters. 
  • Senior captain Maura Switzer won the pole vault, clearing 3.84 meters. 
  • Junior Celia Kulis won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 13.96 seconds. Senior Ella Grey was close behind, finishing third with a time of 14.12. 
  • Freshman Abby Desmarais (11.85) and junior Giavanna Ciaravino (11.96) placed 1-2 in the 100 meters. 
  • Senior captain Haley Murphy (55.14) and senior captain Molly O'Connor (56.09) were second and third in the 400 meters, respectively. Murphy set a school record in the event. 
  • O'Connor, Desmarais, Murphy and junior captain Alex Lusby won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:48.50.
  • Sophomore Siena Brunetti won the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:04.91 while senior Caroline Gage placed second in 18:24.35.
  • The 4x100m relay team of Ciaravino, O'Connor, freshman Danielle DiEsso and Desmarais finished in second place, clocking in at 46.45 seconds.
  • Lusby (2:09.32) and senior captain Abby Hughes (2:13.79) finished second and third in the 800 meters. 
  • Senior Jane Feeney took third in the long jump with a leap of 5.91 meters. 
  • Junior Abby Granrath was the top finisher for Holy Cross in the 1,500 meters, placing fourth in a time of 4:41.58.
  • Freshman Lily Deforge was third in the javelin with a mark of 44.57m, and fifth in the shot put at 13.42m.
  • Sophomore Keira O'Connor and sophomore Alyssa Peasley both cleared 1.53 meters in the high jump to place fourth and fifth.
  • Junior Ester Mokonchu led the Crusaders in the hammer throw, placing sixth at 49.52 meters.

  • Holy Cross will return to action for the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet hosted by UMass Amherst in Amherst, Mass. on Apr. 26 at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
