NCAA Bound: Lyons punches ticket to East First Round of Outdoor Track and Field Championships

WORCESTER, Mass.- Holy Cross men's track and field senior captain Liam Lyons has qualified for the East First Round of the Division I NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the 1,500m. Lyons will compete on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.

Lyons qualifies for the 1,500m for the second-straight year after posting a personal-best time of 3:38.38 at the Raleigh Relays on Mar. 26. The time reset his previous school record of 3:40.18, established the season prior, and ranked as the third-fastest 1,500m in the nation at the time.

On May 4, Lyons was recognized as the 2026 men's Crusader of the Year, the most prestigious award presented to a Holy Cross student-athlete, at the annual Crusader Awards. He holds school records in the 1,000m, 1,500m, mile, and 3,000m. Lyons secured a top 15 finish at the 2025 Patriot League Cross Country Championships and earned two medals at the 2026 Patriot League Indoor Championships. He earned second team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League in cross country and indoor track.

Lyons earned First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honors after winning gold in the 1,500m at the Patriot League Championships on May 17, clocking a time of 3:40.76 which broke both the league's meet record as well as the facility record at Navy's Ingram Field.

Last season, Lyons finished 42nd in the 1,500m at the 2025 NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., posting a time of 3:46.63.

Lyons is the first Crusader to represent Holy Cross men's track and field at the NCAA East First Round in back-to-back seasons since Nathaniel Couture '08, who competed in the javelin in 2006 and 2007. He is also one of just three student-athletes from the program to qualify for the NCAA East First Round since the turn of the century, along with Gabe Piepergerdes '21 (400m hurdles) and Couture (javelin).

The NCAA East First Round will be held at the University of Kentucky from May 27-30.
