BOSTON, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed at the Showdown at The Heights hosted by Boston College from Friday, Feb. 7 to Saturday, Feb. 8. at the TRACK at New Balance. Three Crusaders broke school records in the two-day meet.
MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior captain Liam Lyons broke the 55-year-old mile record with a time of 4:00.38 to clinch second in the invitational event. The previous record (4:01.1) was set by Art Dulong in January of 1970.
- For the third time this season, freshman Josh Gentchos broke his own indoor 200m school record with a time of 21.67 to finish fourth in the event. He previously set the record (22.02) at the Riverhawk Invitational on Jan. 24, 2025.
- Senior Josh Exantus won the 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.28. Sophomore Matthew Perkins followed in fourth (8.46) and fellow senior Kevin Yatsuhashi took fifth (8.55).
- Senior captain Brian Fennelly clinched second in the long jump with a mark of 6.14m.
- Sophomore Joseph Mahon claimed third in the open mile with a time of 4:10.24.
- The 4x400m relay team, including freshman Iain DeBoth, sophomore Tristan Miller, senior Andrew Van De Mark and junior Jack Noble, finished fifth with a time of 3:25.00.
WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Ella Grey broke her own indoor 60m hurdles school record with a time of 8.58 to win the finals of the event. She previously set the record (8.63) at the Indoor Patriot League Championship on Feb. 25, 2023. Senior captain Lauren Clark also competed in the final, placing fourth (9.11).
- Senior captain Haley Murphy claimed third in the 400m with a personal best time of 56.70. Freshmen Abby Desmarais (56.91, fourth) and Danielle DiEsso (57.92, seventh) also competed in the event.
- Sophomore Gabby Paolella placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.85m.
- Desmarais (25.25, seventh) and Murphy (25.34, eighth) both competed in the 200m dash.
- Senior captain Abby Hughes won the 800m (2:11.18). Junior captain Alex Lusby was right behind Hughes, claiming second (2:11.84). Sophomore Annabel Murray (2:17.62, fifth) and junior Fiona Doherty (2:20.03, seventh) also competed in the event.
- The 4x400m relay team, including DiEsso, Desmarais, sophomore Lindsay Gill and Murray, took fourth place with a time of 3:51.15.
NEXT UP:
- The Holy Cross track and field teams will head to Boston, Mass. to compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center. The men will compete first on Feb. 14 and the women will participate the following day on Feb. 15.
