WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to travel to Mercyhurst to open their Atlantic Hockey schedule with a single game on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloHockey.
THE CRUSADERS (0-3-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
- Holy Cross enters the matchup seeking their first win of the season and first Atlantic Hockey win of the season after opening the season with losses to Hockey East's Northeastern and then-No. 6/8 Maine.
- Juniors Connor Welsh and Brody Gagno netted the two goals for Holy Cross over the weekend.
- Netminders Louden Hogg, Connor MacKenzie, and Danick Leroux combined for 44 saves over the two games in Orono.
- The Crusaders entered the season with the fourth-most returning goals in the nation (94), third-most returning points (270) and eighth-highest percentage of returning goals (72%).
- Oliphant suits up Friday with the third-most games played by a defenseman among active players with 118, just two behind leaders Nic Belpedio (Ferris State) and Luke Mittelstadt (Minnesotta), and stands in the top-ten among all active players.
- Oliphant's 45 career assists also stand in the top-ten among active defenders this season.
- Senior forward Matt DeBoer's 121 games played are the second-most among all active skaters this season.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST (0-4-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
- Mercyhurst opened their 2025-26 season with two-game sets against No. 12 Michigan and Union.
- In their four games so far this season, the Lakers have been outscored 28-6.
- Mercyhurst returns 17 players from last season, including points leader Ryan Coughlin (15), and assist leader Trent Sambrook (11).
- The Lakers added 14 new players this season in seven freshmen and five transfers.
ALL TIME SERIES:
- Mercyhurst holds the all-time series lead 32-19-9, including a 19-8-4 record in Erie, Pa.
- Holy Cross has won the last four matchups, outscoring Mercyhurst 23-9.
- Holy Cross' last win against Mercyhurst came on Feb. 14, 2025, in Worcester by a score of 7-3.
