Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey falls on the road at #6/8 Maine

ORONO, Maine. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Maine, 5-2, Friday night at Alfond Arena.

Maine starts their season at 1-0-0 with the result, while Holy Cross moves to 0-2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Maine got on the board 3:09 into the first period to take the 1-0 lead, before extending it to 4-0 with three goals in the second.
  • Junior Connor Welsh picked up his first collegiate goal at the 11:50 mark of the second period to cut the lead to 4-1. Chasing down a loose puck, senior Joe Solimine found Welsh skating into the zone for the one-time goal into the top of the net.
  • Maine extended the lead to 5-1 just under four minutes into the final frame.
  • With 4:02 remaining in the period, junior Ty Gagno forced a turnover in the offensive zone, finding his brother, junior Brody Gagno, in the slot for a wrist shot that made it's way past the Maine netminder to cut the lead to 5-2.

  • The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 11 at Alfond Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
