Men’s ice hockey continues road swing at #6/8 Maine

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to travel to No. 6/8 Maine for a two-game set at Alfond Arena on Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m., and will stream on ESPN+, while Saturday's matchup will be simulcast on TSN+.
 
THE CRUSADERS (0-1-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
  • Holy Cross continues their road swing with a trip to Orono, Maine to face No. 6/8 Maine for a two-game set on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Crusaders' opened their 2025-26 campaign with a 6-4 loss to Hockey East's Northeastern last Saturday.
  • The junior class racked up six of Holy Cross' 12 points last weekend, including three of the four goals.
  • Junior transfers Noah Eyre and David Hymovitch picked up their first points in Holy Cross purple in the contest. Eyre's two assists in the matchup are tied for the Atlantic Hockey lead in the category after the first weekend of play.
  • The Crusaders entered the season with the fourth-most returning goals in the nation (94), third-most returning points (270) and eighth-highest percentage of returning goals (72%).
  • Holy Cross returns 20 letterwinners from last year's Atlantic Hockey Regular Season Champion team, including Atlantic Hockey Second Team selection senior Mack Oliphant, Third Team selection senior forward Devin Phillips, and All-Rookie Team selection sophomore forward Matt Kursonis.
  • The Crusaders added ten new faces in the offseason in six freshmen and four transfers.
  • Oliphant suits up Friday with the third-most games played by a defenseman among active players with 116, just two behind leaders Nic Belpedio (Ferris State) and Luke Mittelstadt (Minnesotta), and stands in the top-ten among all active players.
  • Oliphant's 45 career assists also stand in the top-ten among active defenders this season.
  • Senior forward Matt DeBoer's 119 games played are the second-most among all active skaters this season.
 
SCOUTING #6/8 Maine (0-0-0, 0-0-0 HEA):
  • Maine finished the 2024-25 season with a 24-8-6 overall record, with a 13-5-6 mark in league play.
  • The reigning Hockey East Tournament champions enter the weekend ranked sixth in the USCHO poll, and eighth in the USA Hockey poll.
  • The Black Bears returning 14 points-getters from last season, while adding 13 newcomers.
  • Maine returns 48 percent of goals, 63 percent of assists and 57 percent of the points from a season ago, along with netminder Albin Bojia, who started 37 of the Black Bears' 38 games.
 
ALL TIME SERIES:
  • Holy Cross is 2-4-0 all-time against Maine, dating back to the 1997-1998 season.
  • The teams last met on Oct. 18, 2003 at Alfond Arena, where Maine came out victorious by a 7-0 score.
  • Holy Cross' last win against Maine came on Feb. 4, 1977, by a score of 7-3.
