HOPKINTON, N.H. – Men's and women's cross country competed at the New England Cross Country Championship held at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Friday, Oct. 11. The men competed against 23 other teams while the women took on 24 other schools.
Junior Joseph Mahon finished second overall crossing the finish at 24:02.24 on the eight-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in fourth with a total of 115 points. Rhode Island captured the team title with 60 points, followed by UMass Amherst with 107 points and Maine in third with 112 points.
Senior captain Liam Lyons earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 24:06.52, while junior Thomas Speltz came in 28th with a time of 25:11.27. Sophomore Lewis O'Connor (37th, 25:19.86), and senior Ben Stone (46th, 25:30.11) to rounded out the Holy Cross top five runners.
Junior Siena Brunetti was Holy Cross's top finisher claiming ninth place overall with a time of 17:44.80 on the five-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in seventh with a total of 201 points. Providence captured the team title with 67 points, followed by Maine with 82 points and New Hampshire in third with 109 points.
Senior captain Abby Granrath earned a 22nd-place finish with a time of 18:20.36, while freshman Megan Moran came in 56th at 18:58.31. Seniors Lauren Hughes (57th, 18:58.89) and Meryl Sullivan (67th, 19:09.98) rounded out the Holy Cross top five runners.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Oct. 24, when they take part in the Rothenberg Run hosted by Brown, at Highland Park's Mark Coogan Cross Country Course in Attleboro, Mass.
