ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Both men's and women's cross country place fifth at the Rothenberg Invitational. Both teams competed against four other teams at Highland Park on Friday, Sept. 1.
Sophomore Liam Lyons finished 12th overall with a time of 19:11 on the six-kilometer course.The Crusaders finished with a total of 103 points as a team, while Brown captured the team title with 22 points. Despite taking home the team title, University of Rhode Island's Ben Fleischer won the individual title with a time of 18:22.
Junior William Schimitsch earned an 18th-place finish with a time of 19:31, while freshman Joseph Mahon came in 20th in a time of 19:40. Junior Henry Oswald finished in 25th place (19:55), and senior Auggie Smith was 28th (20:43).
Junior Caroline Gage was Holy Cross's top finisher coming in ninth overall with a time of 11:23 on the 3.1-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished with a total of 125 points as a team, while Providence captured the team title with 23 points. The Friars claimed the first three finishing places with Reese Fahys winning the individual title with a time of 10:44.
Junior Abby Hughes earned a 24th-place finish with a time of 11:42, while sophomore Abby Granrath came in 29th in a time of 12:06. Freshman Grace Bateman finished in 31st place (12:14), and senior Maura Doherty was 32nd (12:15).
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they take part in the Nassaney Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.
