ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Both men's and women's cross country opened the 2025 season at the Suffolk Short Course Classic. The men competed against 13 other teams while the women took on 16 other schools on the Mark Coogan XC Course at Highland Park on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Senior captain Liam Lyons finished first overall, crossing the finish at 15:15.09 on the five-kilometer course. The Crusaders captured the team title with 26 points, followed by New Hampshire with 52 points and WPI in third with 67 points.
Junior Joseph Mahon earned a second-place finish with a time of 15:21.24, while sophomore Joey Ryan came in third with a time of 15:37.59. Junior Thomas Speltz (seventh, 15:50.71), and sophomore Robert Foster (13th, 16:00.93) to round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
Junior Siena Brunetti was Holy Cross's top finisher, claiming second place overall with a time of 11:03.35 on the three-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in third with a total of 74 points. Northeastern captured the team title with 30 points, followed by New Hampshire with 57 points.
Freshman Megan Moran earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 11:06.29, while senior captain Abby Granrath came in 18th at 11:28.17. Freshman Allie Kaull (28th, 11:39.01) and senior Lauren Hughes (35th, 11:56.24) round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they take part in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in Dartmouth, Mass., at Robert Dowd Cross Country Course.
